Learner Area

ICT work is an important element in Beyond the Wall's programmes.

One day a week a tutor works with our clients training them in mainstream ICT subjects including word processing, design skills and desk top publishing and giving them a chance to attain meaningful qualifications.

In addition our learners acquire a variety of “soft” skills such as team work, concentration and confidence building.

The environment in which these opportunities are offered is extremely welcoming and creative, helping to promote creative thinking. This website gives our learners the chance to showcase their work and encourages them to explore the creative opportunities on offer through the medium of a website.

2011-12

This year a group of our learners are exploring the possibilities of creating a screen-printing business and using the website to promote it. The initial format will be on t-shirts and here are a couple of very early designs that the group have been looking at,

These are photo stories created by Callum and Matthew, learners at Beyond the Wall in 2011.

Other client work includes animation and videos taken by the learners to promote different activities and produced as part of a team to provide material for the website..

Rough Cut - This piece was created by one of our current learners, Curtis, who was learning how to create and then edit a video. This rough cut is his first version of a site tour of the Thornham Estate where Beyond the Wall is located.

All of these approaches encouraged collaboration and group work demonstrating to individuals the benefits of working together.
